“JOINING HANDS TO REDUCE PLASTIC WASTE FOR BLUE HA LONG BAY” Contest Rules

  • Purposes
  • Strengthen community awareness of plastic waste pollution, marine plastic waste, and problem-solving measures.
  • Promote practices and spread initiatives and products that contribute to environment protection, solid and plastic waste reduction from people’s practices, thereby motivating community joint hands to implement plastic waste reduction
  • Seek for practical solutions that contribute to enhancing solid and plastic waste collection, classification, and reduction, protecting the environment and the landscape of the coastal areas and the seascape of the bay, conserving the blue Ha Long bay.
  • Participants

Individuals or teams (number of team members is not limited), who are residents, living, or working in Quang Ninh, Ha Long city, or on ​​Ha Long Bay, engaging in activities of fishing and aquaculture, production, trading and services, caring about environmental protection and reduction of solid waste, especially plastic waste.

  • Requirements for submissions

3.1. Contents

The submissions can be in forms of pre-existing products and/or practices that have been already implemented by the contestants or new ideas/initiatives that the contestants deem implementable in practice and spreadable to people.

The contents of the products/practices/ideas of the submissions can be in, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Reuse or recycle discarded plastic items into useful items, or into products of other purposes.
  • Replace and reduce plastic products that are used and generate plastic waste in daily life or in production, business and service activities;
  • Strengthen the collection, classification, and minimization of plastic waste generated from aquaculture and fisheries related activities
  • Help end ocean garbage dumping by fishermen/households, boats and other maritime vehicles, and garbage dumping by people who live, trade, and do other activities in the coastal activities.

* Initiatives that are/can be practiced and applied for coastal residential areas and coastal waters of Ha Long Bay will be scored with priority.

3.2. Forms

The submission can be done in one of the following manners:

  • Narrative descriptions

Minimum of 800 words and maximum of 1200 words describing the initiative, including the following suggested main contents: Name of the initiative, purpose, target audience, implementation process, and expected results. Contestant is encouraged to use illustrative pictures for existing initiatives/products.

  • Pictures, drawings, designs

At least 5 photos of images, drawings, or designs describing the initiative and include a caption of up to 50 words per photo to clearly describe the initiative (Name of the initiative, purpose, target audience,  implementation process, and expected results).

  • Video

A submitted video shall be maximum of 3 minutes in time length. The video should include multiple angles of the product/initiative to ensure full view, or go back to the product making/making with a 50-word caption/interpretation to clearly describe the initiative ( Name of the initiative, purpose, target audience, implementation, and expected outcome).

3.3. Requirements for the submisisons

  1. The submissions must be produced by the contestants themselves (regarding activities like description, drawing/illustrating, photos/video taking), without taking material from other competitions.
  2. Photos/videos should be clear, or not having too many visible camera shake/blurry patterns.
  • The Organizing Committee is not responsible for copyright infringement entries and does not interfere with any copyright disputes about the submissions from the contestants.
  1. The content of the submissions must be publicity safe, having no violation of the law or contravention of Vietnam’s traditions and customs and not be prohibited from circulation. The Organizer reserves the right to remove the infringing entries without notifying the contestants.
  2. Any fraudulent form of image/article interaction will be disqualified by the Organizer. Thereby, the image/article will be deleted without explanation or notice.
  3. In the event of a dispute over any decision, the Organizer decision shall be final.
  • All activities must comply with the government’s requirements for Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control.

4) Contest process

  • Round 1: Pre-qualification

Time: From launch date to 24h00 of November 15, 2020

Contestants are required to fill out the registration in the link: http://bit.ly/chungtaygiamracthainhua, and upload the link of the initiative’s narratives, photos, videos (in the form described in section 3.2).

The entries that meet the requirements of the contest mentioned in article 3 will be screened by the Organizing Committee, then the qualified submissions will be participated in the second round of the contest.

  • Round 2: Voting and scoring

Time: November 16, 2020 – November 23, 2020

In the second round of the contest, the Organizing Committee will shortlist 15 entries with the highest score for the final round based on 02 criteria as follows:

1) Online votes

All entries that pass the  pre-qualification round will be published on the Facebook fanpage of the contest (https://www.facebook.com/MCDbluesolutions) and scored according to the number of interactions.

  • Each interaction (like, love, haha, surprise, sadness, anger) or view worths 1 point.
  • A valid comment worths 2 points;
  • Each share (in public mode) worths 3 points.

* Note: Comments will not be counted if:

  • Contents are inappropriate, against the laws and etiquette.
  • Spam comments such as: repetitive content, containing only 1 character, punctuation or word, or meaningless words.
  • Online votes for the contest are counted from 00:00 on 11/16/2020 until 24h00 on 23/11/2020.

2) The scoring of professional jury

The second round jury panel of the contest (convened by the Organizing Committee) will score all qualified submissions based on the criteria of form, content, and applicablity of the initiatives to the community.

Method of calculating the score of round 2: 50% of the total score will be based on post interaction on the contest fanpage, the other 50% is the score given by the jury panel.

After round 2, the Organizers will announce the results of round 2 and send the final round criteria to the individuals/teams whose initiatives are qualified to the final round.

  • Round 3: Final round

Time: December 1, 2020 – December 5, 2020

15 entries qualified to enter the final round will be sent to the final round jury panel to be reviewed and scored. The winning entries will be selected based on the criteria of form, content, and applicablity of the initiatives to the community.

  • Announcement and awards ceremony

Time: Mid-December 2020

Location: Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province

5) Prize structure:

The following prizes will be awarded:

  • First prize: 5,000,000 VND/award;
  • Second prize: 3,000,000 VND/award;
  • Third prize: 2,000,000 VND/award;
  • Extra prize: 1,000,000 VND/award.

* Maximum 3 awards for each prize category

* Outstanding entries will be published on the official media channels of the Organizer.

6) Contestants‘ rights and responsibilities

  • Individual/teams are entitled to submit unlimited initiatives;
  • Contestants are responsible for complying with the requirements and regulations of the contest. The Organizers reserve the right to remove the offending entries.

7) Rights and responsibilities of the Organizer

  • Organizer is responsible for informing the qualified/winning individuals/teams about their qualification into the final round and their prizes.
  • Organizer reserves the right to use the information and images of the submissions and contestants without paying any fees related to copyright.
  • Organizer is responsible for the confidentiality of the contestant’s personal information if requested.
  • Organizer is responsible for ensuring and requiring partners and contestants to ensure that all activities in the contest comply with the government’s requirements for Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control.
