The community communication campaign “Promoting climate change adaptive livelihood models
From 14th to 16th of February 2014, Centre for Marinelife conservation and Community Development (MCD) associated with Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network (ADRRN) and partners from Youth Union of Nam Dinh province, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Natural Resources in Nam Dinh and Giao Xuan People’s committee, organized the community communication campaign “Promoting climate change adaptive livelihood models” with the theme “Climate change and Climate change adaptive livelihood” which promotes climate change adaptive livelihood model and enhances adaptive capability through good practices in climate change adaptation and mitigation in coastal provinces of Vietnam.
Through activities such as parades, district and commune broadcast, document and publication exhibition on climate change, disaster risk reduction, local livelihoods and “Local communities gaining knowledge and practicing typical climate change adaptive livelihoods” competition, the media campaign will influence more than 1,300 households (accounting for 50% of the local population), raise their awareness of disaster risk, help them apply science, technology and develop climate change adaptive livelihoods in the localities.
The community communication campaign “Promoting climate change adaptive livelihood models” with the theme “Climate change and Climate change adaptive livelihood” proceed the project “Partnership for equitable Resilience to the impacts of climate change of the Coastal communities in deltas of Vietnam (PRC)”, held by MCD and Nam Dinh People Committee, with the support from the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAid) from 2012 to 2014, in order to enhance climate change adaptation and recovery competence for coastal community in Vietnam. The project has achieved some initial considerable results including selection of climate change adaptive livelihoods for the poor and vulnerable communities to climate changes. The most successful model of those is biopad model which is constructed in many provinces. These achievements are completely fit for Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network’s vision which is to enhance network operations, share and promote the innovation and good practices in adapting and mitigating climate change’s influences in Asia, including Vietnam.
