15. 07. 2022 MCD 72

On July 14, 2022, the Centre for Marinelife Conservation and Community Development (MCD) cooperated with the Vietnam Institute of Seas and Islands (VISI) – Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands (VASI) and partners to organize the “National Stakeholder Workshop strengthening the exchange of information, science and technology to support the implementation of the National Action Plan on Marine Plastic Waste Management until 2030”.

Workshop scene

The workshop aimed to create a forum to strengthen connections and update information related to the implementation of the National Action Plan on Marine Plastic Waste Management until 2030 (NAP), through scientific research, practical solutions, and intervention models, in order to increase the effectiveness of solid waste management and reduce both plastic waste flowing from land to sea and at sea sources. This workshop is part of the project “Accelerating efforts to reduce ocean plastic in Vietnam” which is funded and technically advised by Ocean Conservancy.

The workshop was organized in hybrid manner with nearly 100 participants in-person in Hanoi and remotely on Zoom. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands, the local Departments of Natural Resources and Environment from a number of coastal provinces, universities, research institutes, international organizations, NGOs, businesses and the press.
