Improve Resilience of community livelihoods and adaptation management in Marine Protected Areas in Vietnam
With sponsorship from MFF/IUCN (“Mangroves For the Future”- IUCN, Centre for Marinelife Conservation and Community Development (MCD) launched the project: “Improve Resilience of community livelihoods and adaptation management in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Viet Nam: From local movement to national network”.
The project is implemented in 24 months (2013-2015) in the Middle coast of Vietnam including such commune as: Van Hung commune (Van Ninh, Khanh Hoa), Nhon Hai commune (Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh), Tan Hiep commune (Hoi An, Quang Nam).
The main objective of the project is to develop network of MPAs in Vietnam. The project aims at improving adaptation management in 3 MPAs monitored by the communities through local activities to enforce the network of MPAs in Viet Nam. Four main results that need to be achieved are: the competence of managers in MPAs monitored by the community and residence within project sites is enhanced; adaptation management plan is completed and shared among the network of MPAs in Vietnam; the resilience against climate change of community livelihood is improve and the project is managed effectively.
The project started since April 2013 with the first activity on 23th-27th April when MCD delegation carried out inspection at project sites to assess status and demand for management in local MPAs. This project is hoped to make positive contribution to “Mangroves For the Future” in terms of adaptation management, sustainable livelihoods and communities’ resilience.
