Hundreds of small business units in Ha Long 1 Market have signed commitments to join Green Label “The pioneer in reducing plastic waste”

Green Label “The pioneer in reducing plastic waste” is an initiative of MCD and Ha Long 1 Market Management Board  to promote and honor small business and service units in Ha Long 1 Market in implementing better solid waste management and plastic waste reduction.

The implementation of the Green Label criteria by the core group of small business and service units at Ha Long 1 market according to the signed commitment since March 2020 has shown good results. In order to spread these good practices to the larger community at Ha Long 1 market, MCD has collaborated with the Management Board of Ha Long 1 Market and the core group of small business and service units to carry out activities to enhance the understanding of solid waste management and plastic waste reduction solutions, and to promote the implementation of the Green Label criteria to representatives of industries, other small businesses at Ha Long 1 market. Until August 15, 2020, there have been 105 small-businesses at Ha Long 1 market to acquire knowledge, experience and make commitment to implement the Green Label criteria.

In addition, documents, news and articles about plastic waste pollution, guidance on waste classification and solutions for plastic waste reduction, and providing the project information and activities has been prepared under the support by MCD and will be used by Ha Long 1 Market Management Board to spread and promote the implementation of the Green Label criteria more widely in the community.

 

These activities are under the framework of the project “Lessons learnt from demonstrated Municipal Plastic Waste Management in World Heritage Ha Long Bay, Vietnam” funded by USAID through DIG and implemented by MCD in coordination with the local partners at Ha Long City, Quang Ninh during the period from 2018 to December 31, 2020. The main objective of the project is to improve the efficiency of the waste collection, sorting and treatment process in ​​Halong Bay, contributing to reduce plastic waste pollution in the marine environment in World Heritage Ha Long Bay.
